Working with Families

The Toddler Group was established at Christ Church in 1997 and this has proved to be a great success in supporting young parents with pre-school children. This is attended regularly by over thirty parents plus 30-40 children each Thursday. Parents are supported and children given access weekly to a craft corner and story time. It helps children to socialise and is a welcome break for mum or dad. There is a team of eight volunteers who run the group.

Our work supporting families has expanded significantly since the completion of the Access and Learning Centre in the Basement and the opening of the Stamford Children’s Centre. We work in close partnership with the centre and host many activities for pre-school children and young families.

Twinklets

We now have similar ’Twinklets’ group meeting on Thursday afternoon for parents with twins and multiples.

Structured time to support children during holidays is a requirement which came out of the Community Consultation conducted by the Children’s Centre in 2006. We provide art workshops to support to primary age children during the ‘half term’ holidays as well as King’s Café which is a café church/Sunday School for young families.

These activities support over 100 families annually.
