The Day Centre
 The Day Centre was started in 1970 by the The Revd Derek Burden in the original Christ Church 'hut' in Willoughby Road. Its purpose was to provide friendship, care and help for the elderly, lonely and housebound of Stamford.
Membership has grown from ten in the early years to forty plus. Two church members who started helping at the Day Centre on the first day, Maisie Scarborough and Kath Heyden Dale, are still with us. Our cook, Margaret Harkey, runs the kitchen smoothly with the regular help of Joan Graham and the team. Our kitchen was awarded five star status by SKDC environmental health inspectors in 2006. We have a dedicated band of helpers and drivers - all voluntary. Over the years faces have changed but their dedication to the Day Centre never has!
Additional services are provided for members; a chiropodist and a manicurist visits regularly. A library van calls every three months to refresh our supply of large print books that members can borrow.
 
Members are charged £3.50 per week but this is subsidised entirely by voluntary donations. We have an annual concert, in which members take an active part, to raise funds but we do rely on donations from organisations and individuals plus bequests to support the running of the Day Centre. This also provides members with occasional treats such as special entertainers, speakers and the occasional outing.
An important aspect of the service we provide is to collect members from their homes in the morning and to return them home in the afternoon. For this we have a team of volunteer drivers using their own cars and our own minibus.
Each month we have a communion service that is well attended by over half of the members.
Referrals for membership come from private individuals, local doctors' surgeries and social services.
